Independent Study Courses

for Elementary and Secondary Teachers

through Fresno Pacific University

Center for Professional Development

Reading good stories is a wonderful way to learn! In this course, teachers will select and read great stories by classic and contemporary American authors. Consistent with national standards, this course also reviews the tools for reading, helping teachers develop insight, understanding, and discernment. Teachers will be asked to reflect on the ten stories they read by writing brief informal responses and will have opportunity to experiment with ways to incorporate two of these stories into their teaching. Those who are not currently in the classroom may read an additional story instead of designing lessons. Text also used for Lit 907. Ask instructor about refund. (Grades 7-12)
